Isis-Women’s International Cross Cultural Exchange (Isis-WICCE)and National Alliance of Women Human Rights Defenders (NAWHRD) Nepal organized a side event on Thursday (March 12, 2015) from 12:30 – 13:30 pm where Dr. Renu Adhikari Rajbhandari, Chairperson of WOREC and National Coordinator of NAWHRD, as one of the panelists made a presentation on the experience of feminist movement building in South Asian context with much focus on Nepal’s experience and relating to Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) context for movement building. Ms. Bindu Pokhrel Gautam, Vice Chair of WOREC and Pema Poudel, WHRD, also participated at the event. The panel reviewed the contribution of Isis-WICCE and NAWHRD/WOREC to BPfA using the model of movement building and highlighted the experiences from Africa and Asia on women’s leadership on sexual violence and HIV/AIDs and feminist movement building. The panel highlighted various initiatives and achievements, challenges and gaps, and also made recommendations on how states and the United Nations can integrate them in Beijing 20+ and post 2015 agenda. More than 80 participants were present during the session and held a good discussion by posing a number of questions on presentations and sharing their own experiences. The session remained very fruitful tohighlight the post 2015 agenda on building feminist movement by linking voices from grassroots to international level and vice versa. The session was moderated by Ruth Ojiambo Ochieng, Executive Director of Isis-WICCE.
