07 Jul 2021

As an organization that strives to promote sexual, reproductive and mental healthcare, despite the pandemic, dedicated staff of WOREC have been constantly working towards providing psychosocial and mental health services, legal supports, community health services, relief distribution and were at the front line responding to COVID-19 crisis. It was equally important for the organization to take care of the staff’s wellbeing. Hence, WOREC conducted two virtual self-care sessions to provide psychological support and awareness information on Covid-19 for the WOREC’s 135 staff including 23 psychosocial counsellors as they navigate the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘Stress Management and Mindfulness’ session was conducted on May 21, 2021, with the goals of ensuring the staff receive psychological support and immediate interventions. Through the session, senior psychologist Karuna Kunwar helped to clarify participants’ queries and concerns and provided them with practical coping techniques related to stress management, relaxation, and mindfulness.

Along with the session on ‘Stress Management and Mindfulness’, WOREC also conducted a 2-hour long session on June 21, 2021, where Dr Janak Koirala, a professor of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Trial Consultant at Nepal Health Research Council, shared experiences and solutions to protect and prevent oneself from Covid-19.

In the session, Dr Koirala also addressed the hoax and presumptions surrounding the Covid-19 vaccines and requested everyone to get vaccinated. “Vaccines are a critical tool in the battle against Covid-19 and getting vaccinated will help people to protect themselves and others from the virus. People with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease along pregnant women should also get vaccinated to increase their immunity to fight against the virus,” said Koirala.
