Three Days Youth Leadership Development and Advocacy Training

WOREC Udayapur organized a three-day training on Leadership development and advocacy for young leaders of different youth groups of Udayapur, Kailali, Morang, Sunsari, Dang, Dhanusha, Siraha, Kapilvastu and Rupendehi. The training program, which took place from 10th August to 12th August 2021, was devoted to developing the leadership skills needed for achieving success and learning the key factors to consider for ensuring the efficiency of the advocacy process. The program's main objectives were to facilitate the youths to identify youth-related issues at the local level, empower youths on Feminist Leadership, discuss the role of youths and men in ending harmful traditional practices and Gender Equality, and orient youths on Feminism and the Feminist perspective.

In training, youths were oriented on different issues such as introduction campaigns of WOREC, Gender Equality, Women Leadership, Advocacy, Youths' and Mens' Role on ending harmful social practices, Increasing Youths access to planning and resources at the local level, Coordination and Networking, Planning process at the local and federal level, Feminism, and Digital Advocacy. The program was moderated by Ms. Prabha Poudel, Program Officer of WOREC, and different sessions in the training program were facilitated by Sanjog Thakuri, Diwakar Upreti, Sabita Pokhrel, Women Right Activist,  Phadindra Khatri, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Social Development, Ramesh Bhandari, Communication Expert and Sunita Mainali, Program Coordinator at WOREC.

The first session on 10th August, led by Sanjog Thakuri, was focused on Gender Equality and the role of youths and men in Gender Equality and ending harmful social practices. In the session, the participant representing each district also shared their experiences of working towards ending harmful social practices at the community level.

On the second day, Sunita Mainali, Program Coordinator at WOREC, facilitated a session on Feminism and Feminist Leadership where Feminist Values, Feminism in Nepal, significant agendas of Feminist movement in Nepal, Patriarchy, Discrimination, and Violence inflicted by Patriarchy, as well as the need of Feminist Leadership were discussed. In the second session, Youth Adv Mr. Diwakar Upreti oriented the participants on Youth Issue identification, Coordination, and Networking, Youths' role in decision-making at the local level.

Following that, on the last day of the program, Phanindra Khatri, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Social Development, facilitated a session on youth-targeted programs at the local and federal levels. In the session, the participants raised the issues about the ineffectiveness of the Prime Minister Employment Program and the failure of youth-targeted program at ward and municipality as only limited youths with power benefitted from it.

Similarly, Sabita Pokhrel, Women Rights Activist, facilitated a session on Transformative Leadership, Development, and Advocacy. A communication expert Ramesh Bhandari facilitated the last session on Media Advocacy through Group Work.

The training was attended by Forty-five youths affiliated with different youth groups.
