Workshop to Develop Women's Human Rights Defenders Network's Annual Action Plan Concluded

21 Dec 2021

In 2005, WOREC facilitated a common platform known as Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRD) for women working in human rights to come together and advocate for their rights and security. The campaign focuses on capacity building of WHRDs, dissemination of information, documentation in giving visibility to the violence against WHRDs, advocacy on legal recognition of WHRDs with grassroots and national level changes, and support mechanisms and networking. WOREC is a founder of the National Alliance of Women Human Rights Defenders (NAWHRD).

In this regard, on 16th September, Women Human Rights Defenders Network Udayapur, in close collaboration with WOREC Udayapur, organized a workshop to develop Women's Human Rights Defenders Network's annual action plan to address violence against women and girls in public spaces. The workshop's main goal was to facilitate the formulation of the Women Human Rights Defenders Network's annual action plan to reduce and address violence against women and girls in public places, as well as to increase cooperation and coordination with the Women Human Rights Defenders Network to reduce violence against women and adolescents in public places.

The training, which was concluded with the financial and technical assistance of WOREC Udayapur, drew 24 women human rights defenders from around the Udayapur district. During the workshop, participants discussed the current state of violence against women and girls in public places, the definition of violence in public places, the public places defined by definition, issues concerning safe public places, the findings of policy studies, current policies, and legal provisions.
