60 Days Campaign on Violence Against Women Alleging as Witches

26 Jun 2012

In this globalised age where the world is progressing rapidly, women in Nepal are forced to tolerate inhumane act and have to loose their lives being alleged as witches. The practices of punishing women in the name of witch are on rise in our society.  Every sensible Nepali citizen is concerned in such issues. If we look at the data of WOREC Nepal, 92 cases of violence against women (from 2011 April to Feb) alleging as witches are reported in this year. This raises a serious concern for entire humanity.

This campaign on violence against women alleging as witch is conducted in 75 districts having special programs in 16 districts. The main objective of this program was to draw the attention of concerned authority against such practices, and to protect and promote human rights, raise awareness in the society and change the existing social structure. The campaign was formally started on 11 April 2012( 2068 Chaitra 29). This program was organized in coordination of National Women Human Rights Defender with the close cooperation of Care Nepal, Action Aid Nepal, WOREC Nepal, National Women Rights Forum, Kritika social and cultural transformation and Women Forum for Women.
